XL- Advance Elbow Implant has two parts manufactured either from Ti6AL4V Titanium or cold worked inoxidable 316L Stainless steel. The Humeral component replaces the lower end of the humerus in the upper arm. The humeral component has a long stem that anchors into the medullary canal of humerus. The ulna component replaces the upper end of the ulna in the lower arm. The ulna component has a shorter metal stem that anchors into the canal of ulna. The hinge between the two components is made of metal and plastic (UHMWPE). The UHMWPE part of the hinge is tough and durable. It allows the two pieces of the new joint to rotate easily against each other as the patient moves his elbow. The hinge allows the elbow to bend and straighten smoothly. XLO engineers, working in conjunction with leading surgeons, balance material and design considerations to provide the greatest potential benefit. The procedure is also becoming more widely used in ageing adults to replace joints damaged by fractures. The artificial elbow is considered successful by more than 90 percent of patients who have elbow joint replacement.
